To the Waters and the Wild - Celebrating St Patrick’s Week 2023
The Basel Irish Club proudly presents a broad range of content and styles from the mysticism of Yeats through the unique insights of Brendan Behan and the comic genius Brian O’Nolan in the guise of Flann O’Brien as well as a selection of brilliant women poets.
Each presentation will be preceded by a synopsis of the author and the context of the works.
W.B. Yeats - the beautifully poignant poems «The Second Coming» and «The Stolen Child»
«A jar with Brendan Behan» - insights into Dublin history, life and culture
Flann O’Brien (aka Myles na gCopaleen) - excerpts from «The Brother», a hilarious series of conversations
Pillars of the House: Irish Women’s Poetry both past and present, exploring themes related to gender, language, emigration and the environment with readings from 19th/20th century poets Katherine Tyne and Eva Gorebooth, as well as contemporary poets Eavan Boland and Mary O’Malley
The readings will be interspersed with Irish music and followed by an apero.
